Key Club…. end of an era

Posted May 10th, 2013 at 12:35am by Risky

When I heard the KEY CLUB was shutting the doors. I had to go visit one last time. I remember when it was the legendary Gazzarris. I used to sneak and see Bands like Guns and Roses and Motley Crue playing shows there when I was in High School. I remember all the crazy stories about Van Halen and The Doors from the older kids at the time. It was definitely a legendary good time. Sorry to See it go….Definitely an end of an era…..

After we hit the place pretty hard they buffed it. Gregory Siff and I went back the next night and we did our tribute to the Sunset Strip….Good times….

I had to hit a piece above the back door that I slid into a million times….had to catch a few last tags in the bathroom and other spots I wouldn’t normally hit….

RISK BILLBOARD……… ART SHARE L.A…….SEVENTH LETTER

Posted March 14th, 2013 at 11:59pm by Risky

I recently participated in my 2nd Art Share Billboard project. This one was curated by The Seventh Letter Crew. Art Share L.A. is a sanctuary for the arts in downtown LA. They are a non profit organization that maintain a 28,000 sq ft warehouse in the heart of the arts district. Upstairs, theyprovide 30 subsidized live/work lofts for artists. Downstairs, they have a community programmed facility offering classes, exhibitions and events.

It is always a pleasure working with Art Share….This one was the one I did for the 4th of July last year…..Just thought I’d throw this one up, since were talking billboards,  It was one I did with my brothas from anotha….RETNA, AUGOR, REVOK, EWOK, and WITNES Good times!

RISK x NATHAN OTA mural

Posted February 11th, 2013 at 01:30am by Risky

Last week I painted a mural at Will Rogers Elementary School with my good friend Nathan Ota. This one was especially fun because We had the opportunity to meet and talk to the kids from the elementary school as well as the junior high kids from across the street. I love working with Kids and their knowledge and insight was very refreshing. I was also happy to paint out doors with Nathan Ota, my old high school partner in crime. Although we paint in the studio frequently, we haven’t painted a public mural in over 20 years. good times!

On the front side I took advantage of the 3 panels and used the primary colors to do an abstract beautifully destroyed series. The abstract elements on the right edge and the larger dots on the left  represent a spiral notebook. The geometrical line work also works well on these panels because Will Rogers is STEM-focus school which means they fully engage and integrate the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. (STEM)Thank You to the great staff and extremely supportive parents at Will Rogers! Good Times….

SAN DIEGO x TRIBAL WAREHOUSE

Posted February 11th, 2013 at 12:34am by Risky

I spent a few days in San Diego last week with my friends from TRIBAL clothing. I have been friends with those guys since  the Third Rail days in the early 90′s. We were running around the garment district in L.A. learning the clothing game. Plenty of good times! It’s always amazing to see how far we have come. I’m very proud of all my friends. Bobby Ruiz from Tribal recently bought a new warehouse, equipped with a store, tattoo shop, barber shop and gallery. I  wanted to give him a little moving on present, So I decided to rock the outside wall…

There was a fence about a foot away from the wall and the city wanted a lot of $ to take it down, so I had to improvise. We splashed about 50 gallons of paint and water on the wall to get the fade. It was very messy! The people passing by on the 5 Fwy. below were tripping out. Good times! Some local writers came by and I got the itch to rock a piece, so I did a piece in the rafters inside the Warehouse…

I love San Diego. They are very rich in culture. Chicano Park, a must see….Good times…Check out this orange writing on the Blue background. You cant see it very well on the photo. Bu the optical illusion of the Orange letters floating was insane. The Food is insane too!…Best tacos, hands down! Tacos Del Gordo….
