RISK Beautifies Miami’s Skid Row
Los Angeles graffiti pioneer RISK isn’t painting in the Wynwood artist district this year for Miami’s Art Basel. Instead he is bringing his Beautifully Destroyed series of murals to skid row.
“As graffiti artists we strived and struggled to make the ghettos look better, to give ourselves a slice of something better. Now that we are recognized have we forgotten what and why? I talked to several homeless people who will live less than fifty feet from my mural. They are very excited to be able to see something they call so pretty in an usually institutional color pallet. To me this is what it’s about. Giving back to the people who need to be lifted.”
RISK was recently featured in MoCA’s attendance breaking show “Art in the Streets.” Stop by the Corey Helford Gallery space at SCOPE to see RISK’s newest paintings.
Some of the murals can not be posted at this time, however this one is located on 7th and North Miami Drive.
