MORPHIK BRAND…Launches artists series

Posted February 28th, 2012 at 11:12pm by Risky

A few months back I was approached by Morphik about participating in their artists series of bracelets. They explained it was wearable art and I was a little confused. Then they told me the line up of artists fro the project.  A few of the artist were old friends of mine and a few were some people I have a lot of respect for.  At this point I was really curious to see the product. When I saw the quality of the product I signed on. It’s pretty cool, my daughters hung them in their room and they look pretty cool! Here’s one of the bracelets that were released today….

This one was filed in the round basket…

A few months back I did a mural for HEAL THE BAY. It was for a great cause and we were later awarded for the project.  It felt great, a lot of great people stepped up and we formed the AT RISK FOUNDATION. Last year we launched the foundation with the “Oceans At Risk” campaign which will raise money and awareness to the jeopardized water ways leading to, and the ocean itself. However once again the powers that be, had something to say. Any reason to slam a graffiti artist! We were fined 65,000.00.  It was later dismissed after public outrage and a few pro bono lawyers!!! Good times!!!

JERSEY JOE AT BASEL!!!!

This year at Basel I noticed a few people did some out of the box stuff, so they didn’t get lost in the massive graff explosion…This was one of my favorites! So cool, to see 50 back to back characters stretch down the wall…good stuff!!!

Cleaning off my Desk top and I came across the shot Saber sent me. So cool! He made this big flag which was actually protest signs. He left it out by city hall and let everyone grab and use panels to protest at the rally. Good Stuff!

A few months back I had the opportunity to go spend some time with my brother Revok. It was really nice to get away from all the bullshit and politics going on at home right now! This piece was one of my favorite pieces this year, no agenda, nothing but pure old rock the wall stuff with one of your brothas! Good Times!!!

RISK…Beautifully Destroyed….

Posted January 15th, 2012 at 10:37pm by Risky

Came across this searching the web the other day…… All I can say is well put, No comment….

Risk has been working on a series of pieces called “beautifully destroyed” where he paints totally mundane objects. By painting these random ordinary objects with beautiful splashes of color He exposes the dynamic power of color. He believes he has found the root of his graffiti addiction through color and architecture. (for more on this visit his site riskrock.com.) Rumor has it pieces have randomly disappeared across the United States and reappeared the next day “beautifully destroyed”….
We think the artist objective is to “give back” and let these pieces take their course in society. Unfortunately the public does not get a chance to enjoy these pieces very long.
They are usually stolen very quickly and sold to collectors for exuberant prices. The artist does not get any money from this and we don’t get to enjoy them, maybe this is the “course” of our mad society…..

RISK Beautifies Miami’s Skid Row

Los Angeles graffiti pioneer RISK isn’t painting in the Wynwood artist district this year for Miami’s Art Basel.  Instead he is bringing his Beautifully Destroyed series of murals to skid row.

“As graffiti artists we strived and struggled to make the ghettos look better, to give ourselves a slice of something better. Now that we are recognized have we forgotten what and why? I talked to several homeless people who will live less than fifty feet from my mural. They are very excited to be able to see something they call so pretty in an usually institutional color pallet. To me this is what it’s about. Giving back to the people who need to be lifted.”

RISK was recently featured in MoCA’s attendance breaking show “Art in the Streets.” Stop by the Corey Helford Gallery space at SCOPE to see RISK’s newest paintings.

Some of the murals can not be posted at this time, however this one is  located on 7th and North Miami Drive.
